Gumdrop is a five minute short science fiction film about a robot from the same place where I was born – Sofia, Bulgaria.

Gumdrop – the robot, is auditioning for a movie role and her life’s story emerges during the casting session. Perhaps surprisingly, the robot exhibits a very human range of behavior, feelings and personal idiosyncrasies.

Another really cool thing about Gumdrop is that the filmmakers digitally inserted the robot into clips from old movies, so there are scenes of her dancing with Fred Astaire and Charlie Chaplin.

The film was written by Kerry Conran, who did Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and directed by Kerry Conran and Stephen Lawes. Visual effects were done by people who worked on Avatar and The Avengers and Gumdrop’s voice was dubbed by Venti Hristova.
